The MoMo story. Basically, I have a lot of stories related to momo — like when I got to know about momo for the first time in my life, when they were not even that viral in India, how I actually ended up eating them, and how I am still maintaining a habit of eating momo on a regular basis.
Some of them are funny, some are basically college stories, and some are about how it all started.
I was thinking about this amazing journey of mine learning about momo, mostly called momos in our country, and how they are now served totally in Indian style.

During my school days, I used to talk to one of my friends. She was a foodie, and she used to eat these kinds of things. I used to play soccer, so I used to eat healthy mostly — or should I say, my pocket money was quite low to spend on this stuff. So, my favourite thing to eat was water balls only.
One night, we were chatting on Facebook, and then she asked me, “What are you doing?”
I was like, “It’s PM, so I can only do one thing at this time. I’m about to sleep because I have a morning match, so I have to wake up early.”
Then I asked her what she was doing.

She said she was having momo.
I was surprised because it was the first time I had ever heard about momo. And to be honest, she said MOMO, not MOMOS. I was surprised, so I asked a few questions.
She said, “Don’t you eat momos?”

I was like, “No, I eat chole bhature.”
Then we had some basic conversation, and at that time, momos were not that famous in India. You could only get them at some places, not all over the streets like now.
This was the first time I heard about momos.
And now, I eat momos regularly and keep trying to visit new places and try them.
From here, the curiosity started, and now I had to find momos and let myself try it for the first time. But you know, I was never able to find the time to actually go and eat momos.
But after a year, after completing my Class 12th, I ended up in Jaipur. One day, my flatmate said, “Let’s go eat momos.”
And now my mind hit me: okay, I think it’s time to eat momos.
So, we went to Haldighati Marg, and there was a Nepali brother who used to sell momos. But I was not aware of the red chilli chutney, its taste, or what was about to happen after eating that chutney.
When I started eating, I felt like my ears had stopped working. It was too spicy, but still, I managed to eat two plates — 10 pieces each.
And after finishing, my ears were out of work, my mouth was burning, my saliva was everywhere, and my taste buds were shouting, “I want something sweet to eat!”
And so on.
I decided: how do people eat this kind of stuff?
I was like, I will never eat momos again because the next morning was quite difficult. You can understand what I am trying to say here.
After a few days, the same pattern followed. I started eating momos on a regular basis, and today I can say I am still eating them. This is because momos are flavourful little stuff balls that make your head and mouth burst.
Till now, I have tried many types of momos in different cities, and now there are 1000+ momo stalls in my own city. Restaurants are serving momos as well, although they are quite expensive.
But now I think there is a Momo boom in India, and I think there is hardly any village left in North India where momos are not being served. The taste has changed. They do not taste the same as the original taste, but Indian people have come up with their own versions of momos.
Like:
- Paneer Momos.
- Chicken Momos.
- Kurkure Momos.
- Afghani Momos.
- Tandoori Momos.
And so many other varieties.
Some with gravy, some without gravy, but I still eat the normal Veg momos with the red chutney.
This was my story with the momos because I never thought one thing would be introduced to me like this and I would stick to it for such a long time.
Now my friend has gone, and I am hardly in touch with her, but I still eat momos, and this reminds me of my school days.
And I can recall the entire school story — how I spent 6 years of my life at that school. I have seen people leaving, new teachers coming in, and so many changes passing by. The moments we can’t say much about, but a lot has changed ever since.
Today, we hardly have time for our friends. We all are busy in our lives, dealing with our own side of problems.
I think the same happens with everyone.
Today, I thought to drop something because I am working on my next chapter of the book. So, I was thinking about what I should write about today on my PyRoadmaps, and I came up with this Momo story.
Every part of it was from my own experience.
While writing this, my head was filled with happiness, and glimpses of pictures came into my head. It felt like, how good were those days when everything was joy. But today, everything is hectic.
Let’s see, guys, how things move forward.
