Tweet this quoteOne mistake people usually make when jumping into content writing and content creation is not owning the content they create.
Do you want to be a content writer, or are you thinking of writing your own book? Thinking of writing blogs or wanting to become a content writer but don’t know where to start?
You have landed in the right place.
I have been working as a content writer and digital marketer, and I have seen that a lot of things have changed ever since AI was introduced to the world; now, it’s not just about writing the same thing that AI already knows, because you are not going to gain traction with anyone.
You have to be unique; you have to share your own thoughts that define something original, and your ideas should be totally original.
So, you need to think about whether you really want to publish your articles, write blogs, and share stories with people.
Here I am giving you the complete guide to content writing in 2026, so detailed that you will never need anything else after this.
If you follow this content writing guide and write content the way it guides you, then I am sure you’re going to make money, monetise your blog, and do whatever you want to do with your writing.
Every dream of yours will be fulfilled for sure. Because at the end of the day, we all want to make money, nothing else.
Own your content.

The first and most important thing today is that a lot of people want to write and earn through their content, but they miss the most important thing: they never actually own their content.
Most people write their content but never actually own it; they start writing on platforms like Quora, Medium, LinkedIn, Substack, or any other platform, making the same mistakes I made during my initial years.
I started writing content on Quora and Medium slowly. Over time, I started gaining views, reads, and comments, and on Quora, I was getting around 1 million reads every month. But today, my Quora account got banned for no reason.
This is the same with most of the platforms we write on today. They have hidden privacy policies and terms and conditions that we often overlook, and later, they can start taking control over the content we create.
They start to take control over our writing as well as take ownership of the content.
I have seen this happen with many platforms, such as Medium, Quora, and many others.
There is no real freedom, and at some point, the monetisation policies also start to suck.
They might give you very little money for 10K reads or even more, and you will keep running behind monetisation, constantly trying to fulfil their guidelines, but still never feel like you are able to do it.
This is how you slowly start losing your confidence. You start thinking about quitting and begin to believe that maybe content writing is not made for you.
The same thing happened to me back then.
So, I learned to own my content.
If you really wish to become a writer, you have to start thinking accordingly. You can’t just start writing on a random platform and later struggle with monetisation, earning, or other platform-related problems.
You need to build something that you actually own.
How to own your content:

Basically, in today’s time, it is not a difficult task to do. You can easily do that by creating your own website and publishing your content there. It might look like hard work for a while, but with the help of AI, you can easily get started.
Because until you stop depending on other platforms, you will always feel like you have no control over anything. They can take down or ban your content at any time, and that is not good for your career or your mental health.
So, you only need to follow 3 simple steps to own your content.
- First, you need to think of a name for your website. This will be called your Domain Name.
- Next, you need to buy hosting to connect your domain and run your website. You can buy it by clicking here.
- Now, you need to build your website. If you don’t know how to do it and want someone else to build it for you, just visit NetworkPie.
These 3 simple steps give you complete ownership of your content. Now, you don’t have to worry about someone else’s terms and conditions or policies, because you control your own data and can publish things according to your needs and niche.
Now that you have control over your content, let’s dive into content writing and understand it.
What is content writing?

Basically, let me make it simple for you: every piece of writing you create is content, and when you create it for a specific purpose, it becomes content writing.
For example, when you write a script for your video, that is also content writing. When you share your feelings and emotions through quotes, that is also content writing. And when you try to promote your business through written content, that is also content writing.
Basically, expressing your thoughts, ideas, feelings, or messages in written form and reaching out to people through them is content writing.
It can include writing books, blogs, notes, quotes, articles, social media posts, website content, video scripts, visuals, research papers, ads, and whatever else comes to your mind. Even the post you’re reading right now is a form of content writing.
Importance of content writing?

When it comes to the importance of content, we all know that the entire internet is running on content. We are well aware of the fact that every single platform is using content in the form of words, images, videos, and more. This is exactly why we often hear the line: “Content is king.”
Not just that, content gives you visibility on the internet. It gives you leverage over your competition, and if you have a brand or business, it can also be one of the best ways to market yourself.
Right now, things are a bit different from how they were before. Recently, data has come up showing that there is now more AI-generated content on the internet than human-created content. And honestly, this opens a window of opportunity for original creators.
That means the internet needs quality content more than ever. AI needs data, and at the same time, because of this AI boom, a lot of low-quality content has flooded the internet.
So, Google and generative AI platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Claude, Perplexity, or whatever you use are increasingly looking for useful, trustworthy, and original content. This gives you an edge if you focus on writing something genuinely original and valuable, rather than simply adding more low-quality content to the internet.
Furthermore, students, teachers, and people who want to learn new things are always looking for content that is unique and provides them with genuine information based on true facts and figures, real experiences, and not something that is simply plagiarised.
Businesses also look for people who can write original content. And honestly, people in almost every domain look for content online — doctors, engineers, developers, marketers, researchers, and many others.
All of them are looking for someone who is sharing valid content that has a point, provides value, and actually helps them in their work.
So, if you are thinking about giving up, then think again. Your words might help someone, or you might end up building a nice personal brand around your content.
Most people build a personal brand around their content, and you can do that as well.
How to Improve Your Content Writing Skills?

Once you understand content writing and its importance, the next question that comes to mind is: how do you improve your content writing? How does content writing actually work, and what do you need to become a content writer?
All these questions start hitting your head. The first thing you need is the willingness to write, a laptop, and the habit of sitting in one place and actually writing. Apart from that, there are so many other things you need to understand when it comes to content writing.
When it comes to offline writing, you don’t need much. But when you’re writing content online, you need to know so many things, such as SEO, keywords, and other basic terminology that are important for your visibility.
Because on the internet, it doesn’t always matter how well you write. What matters is what you write, how you write it, what people are searching for, and whether your article is actually appearing in those searches or not.
All these things need to be considered.
If you have a basic understanding of all these things, then I am sure you can do it. And right now, search is becoming increasingly AI-driven, which means AI is focusing more on understanding the actual content and intent rather than simply matching keywords.
Previously, it was mostly SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Now we are also talking about AEO and GEO, or in simpler words, creating content that provides a better experience for the user.
If your content attracts people, keeps them engaged, and makes them stay on your page, then you have a much better chance of building an audience and eventually making money from your content.
And to gain visibility, you need to understand the basics of all the terms and concepts I have discussed above.
All of these were the technical sides of content writing. Now, let’s move on to some daily tips that can actually help you improve your content writing.
Basic tips for content writing

If you’re someone who is just starting out, the first thing you can do is not compare yourself to others. This was the mistake I made.
My English was very bad, so I used to feel bad about it. And whenever I read other people’s work, it made me feel even worse.
Tweet this quoteSo, first and most importantly, do not compare yourself to others.
Now follow these steps.
Decide your Niche (Topic In simple words)
This is the basic thing from which everything starts. Because it’s not like you can write about every topic. It requires research and a basic perspective on the topic you’re writing about and what you actually want to tell people.
For example, I have spent around 8 years in the tech and digital industry, so I can easily talk about the changes taking place in the industry and write about those changes.
So, you need to choose a topic or niche that you genuinely desire to write about. This will make it easier for you to do research, come up with new ideas, and understand what’s happening or what’s wrong in that industry.
So, a niche basically means deciding the topic you want to write about. You can write about health, wealth, funds, investments, daily routines, lifestyle, fashion, food, tech, AI, space tech, cars, aeroplanes, oceans, sex, or anything else you desire.
I have seen a huge variety of topics on the internet that people write about, and many of them are making a good living from it.
Even if I consider my blog, PyRoadmaps, it’s basically about my life, the things I do, and the things I have learned over the years. I like to write about my real experiences more than just doing the typical read-and-write kind of content.
So, be precise when it comes to choosing your niche, because this will decide the growth of your blog.
Start with Research in your niche
One thing you need to do first is dive into your niche. When it comes to research, you have to go through the websites that are writing in your domain. You should visit the YouTube channels in your niche and check out everything related to the topic you’re planning to write about.
This will give you a clear idea of what people are already serving to their audience and how you can really do better than that. It’s obvious that you’re going to face competition because there are millions of people blogging on the internet, and everyone wants to be seen by their audience.
So, my advice for you would be: be authentic when it comes to your content and do proper research before actually jumping into writing.
Read other people’s work in your domain.
Write Daily.
This is the most important thing. I remember that before I actually started typing keywords on the screen, I had already written 10,000+ pages through normal writing and daily journaling.
It was advice from my class teacher. She told me that I should start writing if I wanted to learn English. I still haven’t managed to learn English well, but I do write every day.
Because it’s not like you will be able to finish 100 blogs in a day. It will take time, so writing daily will definitely give you an edge.
Not just that, when I look at myself, my fingers sometimes start to hurt while typing. I use audio as well when I need to.
Eventually, you will learn what you need to change in your writing and how to improve your process so that you can keep meeting your deadlines.
Make your timetable for writing.
Even I fail at this one. My life is so hectic that I am never fully able to dedicate my time to content writing. But I have tried writing by following a timetable, and it really works well—not just to achieve your writing goals but also to meet your deadlines.
Basically, when you write content and people like your content, they start waiting for it. So, you need to have a proper timetable for your content: on this day, you will publish this, and on another day, you will publish something else.
At the same time, you need to have your own timetable that keeps you on track. I don’t know how you’re going to prepare that because everyone has a different life, and some people have a really hectic one, like mine. So, you have to come up with a timetable that actually works for both your work and your life.
Also, make sure to keep some time for reading. Reading new things gives you new perspectives and opens up new ideas in your head.
Make sure to prepare your bullet points.
This is something I learnt during my school years from my English teacher: before writing an article or essay, you should have a proper format in mind—what you are planning to write in the introduction, what you want to cover in the body, and what other things you are planning to include in it.
For example, I planned this entire article last week, and I have been working on it ever since. My target date was Sunday, 13 September 2026, but I was unable to finish it on time due to various reasons, so I am still working on it.
You have to have proper points in place before actually drafting your article.

- Introduction,
- Body and other points.

Bullet point tips:
- Keep it simple and authentic.
- Know the headings and how you need to format them.
- Subscribe to PyRoadmaps, lol, just for fun.
Title and headings should follow the current trend.
I have seen a huge shift from casual writing to formal writing today. In the early days of the internet, things were totally different, with normal titles and normal everything. But now there is a lot of content, as well as AI content, on the internet. People don’t have much time to decide, so you have to come up with ways that make you discoverable and make people want to read your content.
The best way to learn titles and headings is to visit magazine sites and read newspaper sites because they really come up with hardcore headings and titles.
Also, make sure you optimise your headings according to SEO.

Make your content valuable for your audience.
This is the most important thing in the entire process of content writing. Ask yourself: Why do people want to read your content? What is there that will keep people stuck to the content?
These questions will provide you with a clear answer that will determine the success of your blog and content writing.
When I think about myself, I feel like I am sharing my valuable experience through this blog, which helps people understand content writing in a better and more precise way.
I have spent years in this, and maybe now I can deliver something good that solves some people’s problems who really want to achieve something.
Make an account on Other writing platforms.
Now you have to understand something called backlinking or grabbing an audience. You have to make an account on every platform like Medium, Quora, LinkedIn, X, Tumblr, Substack, and others, if you know of any other popular channels for content writing.
You can use these channels to grab an audience, but make sure you don’t spend too much time on these platforms.
Some people have made good money on these platforms, but the money they make is way less than what you could make by actually building and owning your own platform.
People who spend years depending only on these platforms are generally trapped in the loop, and some of them end up trapping others in the same loop.
You only need to use these platforms as a source of traffic for your blog. The rest, don’t waste too much time, because they can even take away your publishing rights when you publish on these platforms.
Once you’re done with all these things, you need to optimize your content with SEO, AEO, and GEO.
What are SEO, AEO, and GEO?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Basically, making your content easy for search engines like Google to understand so that it can appear in search results when people search for something.
AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): Optimising your content in a way that helps answer engines and AI-powered search systems understand your content and use it when answering people’s questions.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): Optimising your content so that generative AI platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and others can understand, discover, and potentially reference your content when generating answers.
These might seem like basic terms, but they are very, very important for your content writing. You need to understand these if you want to rank your content on search engines as well as AI search engines.
Not just that, you need to understand that it plays a very vital role in your overall visibility on the internet. It also improves readability, and you need to follow terms like on-page SEO, off-page SEO, and so on.
On-page SEO
On-page SEO is about optimising your headings and text in such a way that search engines can easily read and understand your content.
Off-page SEO
Off-page SEO is about things like backlinks, tags, and other activities outside your content that help improve your overall ranking in search engines.

Use of AI in content writing.
Now, you know most people are using AI in their content writing, but I will say that if you have an original idea, then avoid using AI too much because this is only going to ruin the user experience.
Because AI works on trained data, which means a lot of the content and information is already available on the internet.
So, if you use the same kind of content, AI can provide the answer by itself instead of directing people to your site. So, make sure to use AI correctly. It must not ruin the user experience. Be original and authentic.

Note: Use AI for research, not for content writing, if you’re hoping to build a personal brand around your content.
